Summer of 2006

Summer of 2006 sees Isobel, Pippa (Jamars Epiphany) and I in the depths of the English countryside.  Having returned to the states in 2005 yet still missing life in England I took the plunge and bought a holiday home (static caravan) which sits on the most glorious piece of property owned by friends deep in the Kentish countryside.  Along with the usual country sights and sounds, our resident sheep Percy and Neville the Cockerel, we also hear the sounds of lions roaring and see the elephants in the hills above, not being too far from a local zoo. Quite a unique setting.

Following the PBGVCA National Specialty in California, Izzy, Pippa and I flew to London on Virgin Atlantic, of course where Isobel still retains her celebrity status!  After two days of sunshine and the best of an early British summer, things took a turn and reverted to winter -  heavy rain, winds, muddy fields and the heating on most of the time in our little, freezing caravan.  But as they say be careful if wish for something as it might actually happen……….by late June we were in the middle of a heat wave and our little caravan was on oven!

How wonderful to see friends, go to old haunts, go for long walks in the countryside, hear the ringing of the church bells on a Sunday morning and for lack of a better way to put it, go back to life as I know it.

Show wise Isobel picked up where she left off by winning the Reserve Challenge Certificate at Three Counties Championship Show and Pippa has been placed 2nd at all the champ shows attended so far.  A nice little debut.  It was also wonderful to see Pippas litter brother, co-owned with and handled by Lyndsey Appleton,  Jamars Leviticus, who won the Post Graduate Dog class at Blackpool Championship Show.

I was asked at the last moment to step in and judge PBGVs at the prestigious Welsh Kennel Club as Jim Nixon had to cancel with a bad back.  I was thrilled to be asked and had a wonderful time in Wales.  The setting was delightful and the members so hospitable.  My main winners were Afterglow Ebenezer (Dog CC and Best of Breed), Monkhams Fortune Cookie (Bitch CC); both pictured.  Best Puppy was Tangaer Oopsadaisy
